Vans Spring 2014 Classics Overview

In 1966, the Van Doren Rubber Company opened for business in Anaheim, CA. Soon, Vans’ simple canvas shoes became a staple at the beach and throughout Southern California. Not long after, SoCal teens found that Vans’ sticky gum rubber sole and sturdy construction made the shoes perfect for skateboarding; making Vans the world’s first skate shoe company.

More than 45 years later, Vans still strives to create durable footwear for those that value quality and freedom of expression. Those beach staples have evolved into a full line of Vans Classics that pay homage to our surf and skate heritage.

Vans x The Beatles
The world’s most iconic band of all time, taps into the Off the Wall spirit in a collaboration for the ages. Vans and The Beatles join forces in March 2013 to release a collection of footwear showcasing the unique artwork from the legendary Yellow Submarine album and film.

Released in 1968, Yellow Submarine represents the perfect blend of good music and unique artwork highlighted on four original Vans Classics. This collaboration is the first of its kind and delivers a unique offering of artwork and colors taken directly from the album cover. To kick off the collection, you’ll find alternating artwork on each panel of the Sk8-Hi Reissue hosting individual portraits of the Fab Four from the film.

The Classic Slip-On presents a fun take of the Sea of Monsters by showcasing a continued underwater scene on each pair of Slip-On’s when viewed from left to right. The Era and Authentic round out the offering presenting a scenic garden with the band and an all-over “All You Need is Love” print. The collection is finished out with custom Yellow Submarine woven label on each shoe and a special collector’s box.

Old Skool
In 1978, Vans style #36 debuted in the Classics line and showcased the now famous, Vans Sidestripe. The Sidestripe was first known as the “Jazz Stripe” and has become an insignia to the Vans brand. The Old Skool remains popular to musicians and athletes alike, while continuing its popularity worldwide. For spring 2014, Vans introduces an increased offering of the Old Skool in a variety patterns and colors for men and women.

Classic and Van Doren
The Van Doren collection returns this spring with the largest collection to date. The limited edition styles will drop in January and March 2014, re-releasing nine vintage prints and patterns from the 80s and 90s. The Half Cab and Old Skool will be included in the line for the first time ever expanding the breadth of the Van Doren collection.

This season you’ll find a colorful aborigine all-over print, multi-colored checkerboard reminiscent of BMX styling, vintage-washed stars and stripes and a series of prints that are not often seen. With the original Van Doren heel tab each style the collection will be available for a limited time before heading back to Vans history.

Men’s Classics – Trend Packs
The Classics collection introduces new trends special for the spring season. First up, is the Golden Coast collection of colors inspired by an original Vans color palette from the late 60s and 70s that will be showcased on the Old Skool, Classic Slip-On and Era.

Dip-dye is also featured on the Era with a special hand-dipped process creating unique a pairs of shoes during every process. Seasonal colors of the Authentic are introduced including burnt henna, skydiver blue and verdant green. Finishing off the spring trends is the C&F pack. The canvas Slip-On 59 and Era 59 splashes a updated floral print on the footbeds perfect for the season.
